People at the University Of Virginia say there was no warning, it just
A balcony collapsed just a few minutes before graduation ceremonies began.
One person was killed and about 20 were injured.
People on the balcony were reportedly trying to get a good view of the
ceremony, when one of the supports gave way.

UVA officials say the balcony was NOT overloaded.
The estimate between 4 and 10 people were on it when it fell.
Former Virginia State Delegate John C. Brown is in fair condition after
being shot today.
According to police, two masked men poured gasoline on Brown's front lawn
and set it on fire about 5:30 this morning.
When Brown stepped outside to investigate, one of the men apparently
Brown is in fair condition in Bristol Regional Medical Center with a
gunshot wound in his left shoulder. In 1996, Brown was accused of
molesting a teenage boy.
Rebel troops continue marching into Zaire's capital city.
The rebels were unopposed, as Zaire's prime minister ordered the country's
armed forces back to their barracks, and called on the international community
to prevent a blood bath.
Rebel leader Laurent Kabila is ordering soldiers loyal to ousted president
Mobutu to surrender.
Kabila has suspended the country's constitution, and says he will form a new
government within 72 hours, creating the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Despite urging by western diplomats, so far Kabila has NOT made any mention
of future elections.
Air Force pilot Kelly Flinn's lawyer hasn't given up hope of a discharge
instead of a court-martial.
Flinn is charged with committing adultery, and disobeying orders.
She asked the airforce to delay the court-martial so she could request an
honorable discharge... the Airforce refused.
Flinn and her attorney will still seek a delay at a Tuesday hearing.
Speaking on the CBS program 60 minutes, Flinn said she decided to ask for a
discharge so she can carry out a normal life.

Clinton Van Zandt -- a
Spotsylvania resident who started a private security firm after retiring from
the F-B-I -- spoke at a small community meeting held yesterday at the high
school where 15-year-old Kristin Lisk was a student.
Kristin and her 12-year-old sister were taken from their home earlier this
month. Their bodies were found 40 miles from home.
Police are still investigating a car accident on alternate route 220 that
sent six people to the hospital last night.

Worrell M. Delaney of Roanoke apparently ran a red light then struck another
car traveling along alternate route 220.
According to police beer bottles thrown from the truck were found at the
scene. Officials believe drunk-driving may have been a factor in the accident.
Another passenger in the truck and four people in the car suffered minor
They were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, treated and released.
Police are still investigating the accident and charges are pending against
the driver of the truck.
Fire and Rescue personnel are trained to respond to your call for help.

Roanoke residents started the first volunteer rescue squad in the nation in
Salem soon followed suit, then the trend spread to the rest of the nation.

Commencement speaker Victoria Kennedy, commended the school for fostering
the pioneering spirit in its students.

Actor-director Christopher Reeve
urged a group of new doctors to help the cause of spinal cord injuries.
Reeve addressed 200 graduating doctors at Boston University Medical School.
He asked them to help support a bill to fund research aimed at curing
injures like the one he suffered in a fall from a horse.

The Pope celebrated his 77th birthday today.
