One person was killed when a balcony collapsed at the University of Virginia today.

It happened just as graduation was about to begin.
People on the balcony were reportedly trying to get a good view of the ceremony, when one of the supports gave way.
One person died and 20 others were injured when the structure fell about 16 feet to a walkway below.
University officials say the balcony was NOT overloaded.

Police are still investigating a car accident on alternate route 220 that sent six people to the hospital last night.

Worrell M. Delaney of Roanoke apparently ran a red light then struck another car traveling along alternate route 220.
According to police beer bottles thrown from the truck were found at the scene. Officials believe drunk-driving may have been a factor in the accident.
Another passenger in the truck and four people in the car suffered minor injuries.
They were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, treated and released.
Police are still investigating the accident and charges are pending against the driver of the truck.

Men are already admitted in advanced degree studies.
And to promote those curriculums the College is thinking about changing its name to Hollins UNIVERSITY.

Rasmussen says the things this graduation celebrates--the educational and emotional growth of women--will never change.
Commencement speaker Victoria Kennedy, commended the school for fostering the pioneering spirit in its students.
But the Washington attorney and wife of Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy says gender inequalities still exist in the workplace.

Participants in the annual living history event say they're trying to show people what it was really like more than 130 years ago.

((A joint agreement between the Rockbridge area's local governments and a local employer will bring a new tenant into the old Blue Bird bus plant in Buena Vista.
Des Champs Laboratories says because of this deal, within three years it may have close to 400 people in the area making its air quality control systems.
Data Systems Consulting of Roanoke is also in an expansion mode.
It develops software for life insurance providers that's growing in popularity, and now G-E Capital is investing three- million- dollars into the company.
The Snowshoe Mountain Resort in Pocohantas County West Virginia is investing 12- million- dollars into a big facelift.
A new chairlift, a renovated ski shop, upgraded snowmaking, lighted slopes, and snow tubing courses are all in the works.
Another company now has its corporate headquarters in Lynchburg.
Three executives from Crown Cork and Seal of Philadelphia have bought out its packaging machinery business and they're running it out of the Hill City.
Advance Auto of Roanoke, one of the nation's largest auto parts stores, put the brakes on its plan to sell the company.
Advance said a sale would not serve its best interests at this time.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 25 points, the Nasdaq Composite edged up 6.

And believe it or not, some customers actually put them to use... because of their light weight and durability.
But Riddle admits that the growing number of movie contracts could eventually change the focus of his business.

A four car accident last night killed three people including the wife of Leonard Wood, the team owner of the Wood Brothers Citgo Racing team.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a car crossed the median and ran into a van carrying six members of the Wood Family.
Betty, Leonard's wife, was killed and her daughter and grandaughter were injured in the crash but a spokesman for the Woods racing team said their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Leonard was treated and released from the hospital this morning.
