Nascar racing is a sport where teams are competitors on the track and family
off of it.
That was evident tonight in Stuart where some of racing's biggest names
turned out to pay their final respects to the wife of team owner, Leonard Wood.

The 64- year old wife and mother died in a car crash over the weekend.
Betty Mae was a familiar face around Stuart-- not to mention the racing
Her husband, Leonard co-owns one of Nascar's most successful race teams.

night when a car crossed the median striking the family van head on.
Leonard Wood was treated and released-- but his daughter and granddaughter

Two teens charged with killing a Lynchburg woman are back in Appomattox
County tonight facing murder charges.
The 18 year olds were hauled in from
Nebraska on charges of killing Lisa Yvonne Crider.
The 23 year old woman was shot in the head-
her body found in the James River May eleventh.
Last weekend, authorities in Lincoln, Nebraska arrested Brandon Wayne
Hedrick and Trevor Anthony Jones at a relative's home.
Appomattox authorities had told Nebraska police the pair may try to go

The man facing death for the murder of Roanoke County real-tor Carolyn
Rogers is asking a federal judge to reverse his conviction.

Danny King's appeal has already been rejected by the Virginia Supreme Court.
Today King's attorneys argued that the court should have reversed the
conviction, because police investigators ignored King's request for a lawyer
when interrogating him.
An attorney for the Commonwealth says King never clearly asked for an
attorney and even if he had, he never confessed to police.
Judge Samuel Wilson did not rule on the matter today.
Southwest Virginia's at the center of the latest spat in the Governor's
Don Beyer says "thousands" of homes in Southwest Virginia "need indoor
plumbing and clean and dependable water supplies."
Jim Gilmore says that's an insult.
Richmond area resident Gilmore says northern Virginian Beyer has a
"derogatory" perception of southwest Virginians.
The Beyer campaign says Gilmore's being "shrill" and "not very
Beyer's plumbing comment came during a campaign stop in Russell County.
He spoke about water and sewer damage done by last year's flooding.
Gilmore says the quote shows a trend.
In 1994, Beyer was quoted as saying southwest Virginians lack "the

The Supervisors say they want Danville officials to consider other plans to

After cutting several hundred jobs late last year, Hanover Direct plans to
add 100 new ones this fall.

N-B-C sportscaster Marv Albert is learning about a different kind of court
He's in trouble with the law.
Albert is charged with attacking a female friend in a hotel room.
The alleged incident happened at this Ritz Carlton in Arlington in
The 41 year old woman claims Albert threw her on the bed, bit her several
times, forced her into sodomy and made her perform oral sex.

While alleged incident happened in February, it was just this week that a
grand jury indicted Albert.
Albert tonight released a statement- He says he categorically denys the

Roanoke's Curtis Staples is one of 66 college players invited to participate
in the USA men's national team trials later this month in Colorado Springs. Two
