An elderly Henry County man knocked to the floor by two men who forced their
way into his house says he pretended to be dead for fear he'd be shot.
72-year old John Craig remembers lying on the floor as the men made their
way through his house around eleven last night.
Craig's 67-year old brother, Governor, was also in the house.
He was found shot to death in a bedroom.

Sheriff's investigators say they're making progress but have NOT made an
They believe robbery may have been the motive, although nothing was taken.
A former state delegate has pleaded guilty to nine counts of contributing to
the delinquency of a minor.
John Brown was given a five year suspended sentence.
Brown is an athletic director- He's agreed to resign his job at Virginia
As part of his plea agreement, a felony charge of attempted forcible sodomy
was reduced to the misdemeanor delinquency charge.
Prosecutors claim Brown invited young boys to his home to play basketball.
They say the games involved alcohol
and partial stripping.
Brown refused to comment after the hearing.
Brown was shot in the shoulder at his home last weekend.
Police are investigating whether there's any connection between the shooting
and the court case.
Child molestation charges have been brought against a Salem minister.
32-year old Matthew Todd Atkins is accused of taking indecent liberties with
a 15-year old girl.
The teen was a foreign exchange student... who had been LIVING with Atkins
in his Roanoke County home for the past 5 months.

Bedford County's school budget problems might end up costing school
superintendent John Kent his job.

The school board wants to know why the school system has finished with a
budget deficit for the third straight year.
Board member Betty Earle suggested last night that Dr. Kent be suspended
with pay while an investigation is conducted.
At least one parent agreed.

A high speed chase through two counties ends in a crash and an arrest.
Christiansburg Police stopped 29-year old Donald Wayne Sowers, Junior, of
Salem, after finding the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department had issued a
warrant for his arrest.
Sowers fled the scene in his car.
Police say he then led them on a high speed chase from Christiansburg to
The pursuit ended when Sowers apparently lost control and hit a police
Abduction and sexual battery are among the charges Sowers faces in

and reckless driving.

Ever worry about turning your lottery
ticket over to the store clerk to see what you've won?
An Arlington man's story won't make you feel any better.
He claims a deli owner stole his winning ticket, worth
six-point-eight million dollars.
The man says the store owner told him he had won a free ticket, when he had
really won the jackpot in the May tenth drawing.
The deli owner claims he found the ticket on the floor--he's been charged
with grand larceny.
He's also now suing his accuser and the lottery for the jackpot.
For now, the ticket is in the custody of the state.
A lottery official says there's a lesson in all of this: always sign the
back of your ticket.
And coming up, It was ugly but the Chicago Bulls win game two of the Eastern
Conference finals The Virginia Tech Hokies advance on the N-C-A-A tournament.
And the teams are set for this weekends Division Three World Series at
Salem Memorial Stadium.
Even the Players admit last night's Eastern Conference finals between
Chicago and Miami was ugly.
The two teams combined to score the fewest points in an N-B-A playoff game
since the shot clock.
But the good thing for Chicago is the Bulls won the game 75 to 68.
