Budget problems in the Bedford County school system have some calling for
the superintendent's resignation.
And after eight years, a child molestation case against workers at a North
Carolina day care center comes to a close.

problems came to a head at last night's school board meeting.
One board member wants the school superintendent suspended and his job
performance carefully reviewed.

the school board voted to borrow a million dollars from its construction fund
to cover salaries through the end of the year.
This is the third straight year the school system has finished in the red,
and at least one school board member wants to hold the superintendent

Air Force Lieutenant Kelly Flinn is already thinking about the future after
receiving a general discharge.
The lawyer for the nation's first female B-52 bomber pilot says she plans to
apply for a waiver that will let her fly for the National Guard,
Yesterday Flinn accepted a general discharge rather than face a court-martial
on charges of adultery, lying and disobedience.
Flinn had no comment but her family is talking.

Meantime, Airman Gayla Zigo, the former wife of the man Flinn was involved

A Ryder Truck employee is back on the witness stand at the Oklahoma City
So far she has NOT identified Timothy McVeigh as the man who rented the
truck used in the blast.
McVeigh's Defense is now trying to establish that a SUICIDE bomber
set off the blast.

A man charged with the stabbing death of a romantic rival during a fight was
A Roanoke jury deliberated two hours yesterday before returning the NOT
guilty verdict in the case of Michael Wells.
Wells testified Anthony Crutchfield started the fight last December and that
he was just defending himself.
Prosecutors said Wells was jealous because his longtime girlfriend had been
The Wythe County Sheriff's Department welcomed Governor George Allen with
open arms yesterday.
The sheriff got 95-hundred dollars from the sale of assets seized in three
different drug busts.
In those busts, Wythe County deputies confiscated two vehicles and nearly
five-thousand dollars in cash.
The governor says the county's efforts are helping keep drug dealers out of
other parts of the state.

The governor's office says state police have been increasing their efforts
to stop drug dealers on interstate highways and major roads.
A high-profile case of alleged
child molestation is officially closed in North Carolina.
State prosecutors this morning dropped all 99 remaining charges against
defendants in the Little Rascals day care case.
The case dates back to 19-89 when Robert Kelly, his wife and five others
were charged with 429 counts of sex abuse against children at their day care
Kelly was convicted and sentenced to life on some of the charges.
But the verdict was overturned on appeal.
Authorities say they are dropping the case on the advice of parents.

A Roanoke County minister is facing charges that he molested a 15- year- old
female exchange student who was living at his home.
Police say 32- year- old Matthew Todd Atkins has been charged with
three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child in his care.
The incidents allegedly happened between December and this month.
Investigators are searching for a suspect in the murder of a 67- year- old
Henry County man.
Sheriff's officials say Governor Taylor Craig was found dead late last night
inside his home off Figsboro Road.
He apparently died from gunshot wounds.
Craig's 72- year- old brother, John, was injured during the incident.
Authorities say he's recovering from a blow to the head.
More possible violence against abortion clinics.
Fire investigators are calling an early morning fire at a Portland clinic
There were no injuries but the fire caused significant damage.
The clinic has been a focal point for anti-abortion protesters for years and
had been threatened in recent days.

He says his adopted grandmother taught him honesty, integrity, and how to

students say they'd eat there at least twice a week.

Lynchburg this weekend.
The Fair By the James replaces the FESTIVAL By The James which ran for ten
years along the city's riverfront.
Organizers say the regional fair has a lot more to offer and will give

News 7 sports has learned that Fred Wagner has been offered the head
football coaching job at Liberty high school.
Wagner is currently an assistant football coach at William Byrd.
He was also instrumental as a head coach in turning around Northside's
wrestling program before returning to Byrd a few years ago.
Wagner replaces Mike Scharness, who took the head football job at Rustburg.
Glenvar high school has named its new girl's head basketball coach.
Bryan Harvey replaces Dennis Layman as the lady Highlanders head coach for
