An Appomattox man who helped local veterans process their disability claims
died in a car crash yesterday in Franklin County.
54-year old Curtis Brown was returning from an Am-vets ceremony in
Collinsville when his car ran off Route 220 and struck several trees.
Brown himself was a U-S Navy veteran.
He'd worked in the Roanoke Amvets office for more than five years.

the drink Monday-

path- a trail of smashed beer cases.
The chase lasted some 30 minutes before the truck crashed into a muddy
lake.
The thief who was driving seemed to have disappeared- so police thought he
might have escaped or drowned.
But scuba divers found him hidden in an air pocket under the truck.
They dragged him through the muddy water to safety and then to jail.
