The murder trial of Michael Knowles took an unusual turn today as the case
was going to the jury.
Knowles spoke out in the courtroom, saying he was a prophet of God, and then
acted as if he was going to cut his own throat.

Methanol is a volatile, flammable, and poisonous form of alcohol.
It's often used as a solvent and antifreeze.
Some Roanoke County residents have about three- thousand gallons of it near
Virginia environmental investigators report the substance leaked from an
underground pipe at the Ingersoll- Rand plant in the county.
The investigators say nearby residents are in no immediate danger.
The leak was caused by a corroded pipe.
The head of the Virginia Pediatric Society says his group will try once
again to make it illegal to let children ride unrestrained in the back of
This comes after a child was killed in Montgomery County over the weekend.

Keith, every year in Virginia as many as 3 children are thrown from the back
of a pickup truck and killed... many more are injured.

7 year old Samantha Rentch was thrown from the back of a pickup when it
crashed into another car.
Doctor Hugh Craft heads pediatric intensive care at Community Hospital, and
is the president of the state pediatric society.
He said if there are no safety restraints in the back of a truck, kids
shouldn't be there either.

A Maryland man is accused of putting his child's life in jeopardy while
driving his CAR.
A charge of Reckless Endangerment of Child has been certified against 30-
year- old Darryl Joe (RED-fern) Redfearn.
According to authorities, Redfearn was driving more than 100 miles an hour
down Route 220 in Botetourt County.
When police pulled him over, they found his 6- year- old son standing up in
the back seat of the vehicle.
If convicted Redfearn could face 5 years in prison.
Virginia Military Institute has filed its last quarterly report until
females join the rat line.
At this point 65 women have been accepted to VMI and nearly half of them
have sent in deposits to secure a spot.
The school submitted its orientation program which includes group sessions
on sexual harassment, hazing and fraternization.
VMI also clarified its dating policy.
Rats will not be allowed to date any upperclassmen while in the rat line...
and there will be no dating within a cadet's immediate chain of command.
VMI says no cadet will have door locks or chains on their barracks room.
If a cadet is changing their clothes they can pull their shades down.

The state is honoring two brothers for their bravery and courage.
Nathan and Jesse Foutz received the first ever Director's Award for Heroism
for trying to save a drowning man at Smith Mountain Lake last month.

Kroger's plan to move 125 warehouse workers from West Virginia to Roanoke
County remains on hold.
A circuit judge in West Virginia says he will wait up to 10 days to rule on
an injunction against the supermarket chain.
Yesterday a hearing on the matter stretched well into the evening.
Kroger closed its warehouse in Charleston, West Virginia, and plans to
consolidate it with one in Roanoke County.
But the West Virginia workers say Kroger can't do that, because the Mountain
State fronted 27- million dollars in public bonds to build the Charleston
A Salem man has lost his challenge of a state law that requires those
convicted of drug offenses to give up their driver's licenses for six months.
The Virginia Court of Appeals rejected an appeal from Eric Walton, who lost
his license after detectives found marijuana in his home.
Walton claimed the suspension violated his right to due process.
But the court says suspending a drug offender's license helps control the
