John McDonough beat out one thousand others to revive the children's show, which ran for nearly 40 years until 1993.
"The All New Captain Kangaroo" program features some familiar characters, including Mr. Green Jeans, Mr. Moose, Bunny Rabbitt and Grandfather Clock on a Treasure House set.
It hits the airwaves in September.
