break, and is now back deliberating this afternoon.

Members of the prosecution were upbeat as they entered the courthouse. None
would would say much about the trial---other than it was in the hands of the

And that's what happened as Judge Richard Matsch explained to the jury of
seven men and five women...the law and how it applies to Timothy McVeigh. The
judge said "you must completely disregard anything you have read, seen or
heard outside the courtroom..related to this trial." Then they left the
courtroom and began to decide the fate of mcveigh..who could face execution if
convicted for the 1995 bombing.
It's anyone's guess as to how long deliberations will take...defense attorney
stephen jones had this reaction.

For the second time in less than one month, a high school coach is slapped
with an assault charge.
Paul Bernard is the boys basketball coach at William Byrd.. He's accused of
shoving... and then verbally assaulting a member of his team.
The warrant has yet to be served.
And school officials are trying to gather all of the facts before taking any
action against Bernard.

Next month, Salem High School soccer coach Walter Braine, will stand trial
on charges that he intentionally kicked a student during physical education

A guilty verdict in the Megan Kanka murder case.
A jury convicted 36 year old Jesse (Ta-menda-kwas) Timmendequas of killing
seven year old Megan.
The murder prompted the so called Megan's Law- that requires communities be
notified if a sex offender moves into the area.

Timmendequas was accused of luring Megan Kanka to the bedroom of his house
to see a puppy- and then raping and killing her.
Timmendequas could face the death penalty.
After months of public hearings, Governor George Allen has sprung his own
plan on the State Board of Education.
The board had NOT touched the controversies over sex education or guidance
counseling in its proposed Standards of Accreditation for schools.
Now -- a week and a half from the vote -- the Governor's suggesting big
Allen would give elementary schools a choice of counselors OR reading

Virginia Military Institute will not only continue to use the term "dyke,"

A doctor who helped bring accessible medical care to a minority community in
Roanoke has been fired.
Kenneth LeGree (leh-GREE) Hallman's dismissal surprised patients at the
Carilion Northwest Medical Center, which he has supervised since its inception.

The Carilion Health System will give no reason for the firing, saying only
that NO patient was endangered by Hallman.
Hallman also had about 18 patients at the Burrell Nursing Center next door.
A vaccine that could help prevent the transmission of salmonella from eggs
to people is on the horizon.
Researchers from Iowa State University have developed a vaccine that is
given to chickens-- to stop them from spreading the bacteria to their eggs.
Humans contract salmonella usually from improperly cooked eggs-- causing
