The owners of Crenshaws TV and Appliance Stores is suing WDBJ-7 for 30
The lawsuit, filed today in circut court, accuses WDBJ-7 of negligence, and
conspiring to harm the company's business.
The suit refers to a series of reports WDBJ-7 aired last year about
Crenshaw's purchase of Holdrens stores in Roanoke and Lynchburg.
We reported that Crenshaws, after initially honoring Holdren's extended
warranties, stopped doing so.
Crenshaw's says after the reports, sales decreased significantly.
WDBJ General Manager Bob Lee called the lawsuit "ridiculous", and said the
station would withhold further comment pending consultation with its attorneys.
In March, WDBJ-7 filed a lawsuit against Crenshaws attempt to collect
nearly 50-thousand dollars in unpaid advertising bills--advertising purchased
months after the station aired the warranty reports.
The issue of Crenshaw's warranty coverage is still being investigated by
the Virginia Office Of Consumer Affairs, which referred the matter to the state
Attorney General's Office for review and possible enforcement action.
