Cranwell says charter schools could return Virginia to segregation and "Balkanize" the public school system between the haves and have nots.

Sources say the State Board will also delay a final vote on the Standards for about a month to get more input.
That's after the Governor proposed major changes last week, including making sex ed and elementary guidance counselors optional.

According to The Washington Post, Pittsylvania County resident Ramona Hines has requested an investigation into Davis's conduct by the Virginia State Bar.
Hines was a client of Davis's when she made the videotape first seen on NEWS-7.
That tape is now part of an ad run by fellow Republican opponent Ken Stolle
(STAH-lee).


Hines says she complained to the State Bar about Davis's professional conduct last month.
She alleges that on several occassions over a two year period, Davis asked to meet him to discuss her case.

He calls it a "good times dividend."
But in a county like Carroll, the tax rate is a dollar-30 per one hundred dollars of assessed value.
In Arlington, it's four-dollars and 40-cents.
Gilmore's plan would reimburse local governments "dollar for dollar" for the car tax.

Three days after a fire at Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital-- displaced

patients were moved back to their rooms at the facility.
87 residents were evacuated from the hospital after Tuesday night's fire.
Dozens of patients were transferred to oanoke Memorial Hospital-- before leaving by bus today.
The remaining patients staying at Carriage Hill Retirement Center, will be moved back tomorrow.

The fire started when a circuit breaker was accidentally turned on, heating a hot plate in the recreation room of a storage closet.

Blacksburg's Federal Mogul is working with state environmental agencies to determine if neigbors are affected by a chemical de-greaser seeping into the ground.

The chemical, known as (Try-CLORO-ethyl-lean) Trichloroethylene, or T-C-E, is used by the company to degrease engine bearings.
It's been detected in a well at the A-and-T Mobile Home Park-- and also in a nearby spring that feeds into Wilson Creek.
The chemical seeped into the ground at a private waste water treatment plant on the site-- that's now closed.
Federal Mogul is expected to spend several million dollars determining how far the chemical may have spread into the groundwater.

They say a cell transplant procedure in April eliminated lupus from the system of a 24-year-old woman diagnosed with lupus eleven years ago.

In the top of the first, with a runner in scoring position Chatham's Thomas Meadows comes through with a single to right field the run scores and the Cavaliers led 1 to nothing.
But the Terriers came back in the bottom of the first. With two runners on Base Tommy Chambers sends a line drive shot over the left center field wall for a three tun homer to make it 3 to 1 Byrd.

In the Group A softball state semi finals; Glenvar beat Castlewood 8-7. The lady Highlanders went up 7-nothing, but the Lady Blue devils rallied for 7 runs in the bottom of the third and fourth to tie it.
Glenvar pitcher Amy Layman scored the winning run on Kelly Julg's single in the 6th.
