A Dublin man is in critical condition tonight- after running out in front of a car.
It happened at the intersection of Route 11 and Giles Avenue in the town of Dublin.
According to police- a friend motioned the 35 year old man across Route 11- the man apparently did not see the car coming until it was too late.
The victim was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial hostpial tongight.
The car's driver was not hurt.

The patient is an employee at RADVA Corporation.
This particular infection is not the central nervous system infection-- meningitis, but it can be contagious and can CAUSE meningitis.
Only those in the patient's household will undergo antibiotic treatments.
About 70 cases of meningitis are reported each year in Virginia.
So far,-- there have been 27 cases in the state.

Kinston took the early lead. in the top of the fifth; Heath Hayes puts the ball on the ground with this shot that brings in a run; 2-zip Indians.
That advantage ballooned. Rafael Gross connects on a sharp grounder that gets past second base and Kinston had a 4-nothing lead.
Salem gets on the board in SUPER=34-Kinston/9/Salem/3;

the fifth. Vincente Garcia makes good on this pitch. The hit goes past short and David Feuerstein comes home; but Kinston takes the first of three 9-3.

Former Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Carol Alfano has a new job. She's been named assistant women's coach at the University of California.

(( This past season was full of ups and downs for Big George. He played on the worst team in the NBA, the Vancouver Grizzlies, and he missed exactly half the season with a strained abdominal muscle.
But while he was injured near the end of the season, he was asked to serve as a model for EA Sports yet to be released NBA LIVE 98 video game.
