A 44- year- old Pulaski resident is in stable condition after being hospitalized with (Meningo-cosee-mia) meningococcemia.
The patient is an employee at RADVA Corporation.
This particular infection is not the central nervous system infection-- meningitis, but it can be contagious and can CAUSE meningitis.
Only those in the patient's household will undergo antibiotic treatments.
About 70 cases of meningitis are reported each year in Virginia.
So far,-- there have been 27 cases in the state.

According to police- a friend motioned the 35- year- old man across Route 11- the man apparently did NOT see the car coming until it was too late.
The victim was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial hospital last night.
The car's driver was not hurt.

The watchdog agency that oversees state government is looking hard at the D-E-Q.
The Allen Administration's Department of Environmental Quality last week laid off 30 top and mid-level managers and created 35 new jobs for which they could apply.
