The crime lab mistake that is forcing Spotsylvania County officials to drop charges against a man suspected in the death a 16-year-old girl has renewed fears about a serial killer.
The state crime lab wrongly determined fibers taken from the victim, Sofia Silva, matched fibers from Karl Michael Roush's van.
Her body was found in a creek 30 miles away last September.

The Silva case came to the forefront after a similar abduction and murders of two sisters- also in Spotsylvania.

The Lisk girls disappeared after school last month.
Their bodies were found in a river 40 miles away.
Many residents thought even before the case against Roush was tainted that the slayings of sisters Kristin and Kati Lisk last month was eerily similar to the Silva case.

"Steppin Out" is surprisingly not a musical, although it does have some tap dancing and one real production number.
It is a comedy-drama about a group of folks with nothing in common other than the weekly tap dancing class they attend.
Each has a different reason for taking the class and the different personalities don't always interact smoothly.
The stress of the impending performance brings secrets, anger, and resentments to the surface and the honesty from these "moments of truth" ultimately turns the individuals into a team.
The classmates are Kate D. Gogerty, Cam Srpan, Mary Jean Redon Levin, Kathleen Beane, Debbie Kluttz, Cynthia Grimes, Renee B. Bready, and Michael Galvin.
Their instructor Mavis is played by Sue Gotwalt and Karen Moore is the moody pianist.
"Steppin Out" is a bit like a soap opera with tap shoes. The show is directed by Ellen Simpson Deane and continues through June 22 at the Showtimers Studio on McVitty Road. cutopen

Attorney General Jim Gilmore is under scrutiny by a state agency that protects the rights of the mentally ill.
The agency's head has hinted that Gilmore is attempting to block the probe of a death at Central State Hospital.
But director Sandra Reen of the agency said interviews with Central State employees have NOT even started.
Gloria Huntley died a year ago while her arms and legs were bound to a bed, even though her doctor had warned against such action.
A Gilmore spokesman denied any effort to block the rights of the agency's investigation.
The Justice Department has been investigating Huntley's death since late last year.
