Although there were cheers.... the applause was brief and -- more a release of tension than a sign of joy. in fact, there was a sort of collective quiet at the fence surrounding what used to be the murrah building... as the final chapter of the bombing trial was closed in the federal courthouse in denver.
There were more hugs, and more tears-- but the elation of a week ago was gone. GOD'S WILL BE DONE THIS WON'T BRING MY SON BACK. THIS DOESN'T HEAL MY HEART. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT HE CAN'T DO IT TO SOMEONE ELSE.
For many it seemed to be perhaps one of the sadder moments -- in the long, two-year journey to justice... I COULD FORGIVE HIM. I COULD SHAKE HIS HAND AND SAY I COULD FIGURE YOU. STANDUP TAG
For many people now the healing process can begin. As one survivor put it, once all the cameras and attention is gone, they're still left with the ultimate reality that their loved ones aren't coming back.
