An overturned logging truck shut down route two-20 in Roanoke County this
evening.

The rig was heading northbound when its cargo began to fall off the truck.
The truck overturned in the median, while the load of logs ended up all over
the north and south-bound lanes.
One car didn't stop in time and ran over several logs.
Police quickly opened one of the northbound lanes, but both southbound lanes
remained closed for more than two hours.
Traffic was backed up for nearly three- and a half miles.
The driver of the truck was not hurt but a female passenger sustained minor
injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

fire that ripped through a packed movie theater today.

Authorities say more than 200 people were hurt.
Most of the victims suffocated on dense smoke from burning
ceiling insulation.
The fire broke out during a war movie, and many patrons thought smoke

The theater seats one- thousand people. It was close to capacity when the
fire started.

A former Radford University student charged with arson and murder made his
first court appearance.

20- year old Michael Harvey is accused of setting fire to a fraternity house
near the Radford campus in February of 1996.
21- year old Christopher Mirch died in that fire.
A judge appointed a public defender to represent Harvey but that may change.
Harvey told the court he was making about 250- dollars a week before his
arrest.
If he is able to make bond and returns to work-- the judge says Harvey will
have to pay for his own attorney.
The former student was arrested earlier this week while undergoing National
Guard training.

It was an unusual standoff today in Washington State.

A naked man brought traffic to a standstill when he fled onto an interstate
highway and climbed onto the top of a truck.
Police say the man -- who was armed with a knife, eventually tossed the
weapon aside and climbed down. He was arrested, and taken to a hospital for a
mental evaluation.
The stand-off began hours earlier, when police confronted the suspect in a
residential area near the busy highway.

administrators to cancel the ceremony.
While several thousand spectators ran for cover, many of the graduates made
the most of the situation.
They jumped through puddles and slid on the slippery grass. They picked up
