When it comes to building a new interstate, progress is slow.
But for the folks backing the proposed I-73 project, any progress is good

VDOT has selected a consultant from Herndon to carry out a location study,
in which it will look at a five- to- seven mile wide corridor which roughly
follows route 220 from Roanoke to North Carolina.
Factors considered in the location study include effects on neighborhoods,
businesses, historic sites, and the natural environment, along with cost.
The five- million- dollar study should take three years to complete.
No money has been allocated for I-73 construction in Virginia.
VDOT estimates it will cost 800- million- dollars to build the Virginia
portion of the highway.
The campaign for Lieutenant Governor is taking retired Congressman L- F
Payne on a tour around the state.
On Friday, he visited Virginia Tech and Radford University.
Payne represented the fifth district for nearly nine years before retiring
to run for Lieutenant Governor.
The Democrat kicked off his campaign last month in his home county of
He says he's continuing to adhere to the "Virginia values" message.

His mother calls the crime an act of revenge for the family's efforts to rid

Hill Apartments told News 7 there was not enough money to make needed repairs.
Dana Walker of Hall and Associates says the residents' complaints are
legitimate but because the company only manages the property it cannot
authorize the money for repairs.
Some repairs have been made but plumbing and air conditioning problems
Walker says the property is in the process of being sold.

A new study out in time for Father's Day shows there are now more
single-father families in the United States than at any time in the past 20
That's according to a report by the National Center for Children in Poverty
at Columbia University.
The study shows single-father families now account for four-point-three
percent of all families nationwide.

In August 1994, Ernie Irvan crashed during practice at Michigan and nearly
lost his life.
Well, Today Irvan celebrated in victory lane after taking the checkered
flag winning the Miller 400.
