For the first time, doctors have documented that hantavirus infection can be
passed from person to person.
The virus was first found to cause a fatal respiratory illness in dozens of
people in the four corners region of the U-S.
Until now it was believed it
could only be contracted by breathing in microscopic bits of rat droppings.
Now the Centers for Disease Control says that 18 people in Argentina
became ill through person to person contact.
They say there's no cause for alarm but U-S physicians should be on the
look-out for this form of transmission.
