fraud and money laundering.
A hearing was held in federal court in Abingdon.
Mitchell admitted taking more than 400-thousand dollars from the county and
its industrial development authority.
He also pled guilty to filing a false income tax return.
Mitchell will be sentenced in September.
He's also facing state charges in the case.

One of high school baseball's talented young young coaches resigned today.

William Byrd's Rodney Spradlin stepped down as the Terriers head coach late
this afternoon.

Spradlin lead the Terriers to the group 2A state championship June 10th in
a 6-3 win over Tabb. It's Byrd's first ever baseball state title. In 5 years as
head coach; Spradlin went 94-22 and 1 with three trips to the state tourney. He
offers a few reasons for his resignation.

the Roanoke College baseball job IF the new program becomes a varsity sport in

Double A minor league baseball's Carolina Mudcats manager Marc Hill
resigned today to become an instructor for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Hillcats manager Jeff Bannister will replace Hill and become the sixth
manager in team history. The 32 year old Bannister has managed Lynchburg to a
94 and 104 record since taking the job at the beginning of the 1996 season.

Baltimore lost to the Montreal Expos 1-nothing this afternoon. If the O's
seemed distracted it's because one of their own was recovering from cancer
surgery

Eric Davis was released from John Hopkins Hospital after receiving surgery
for colon cancer. A hospital spokesperson says that Davis was with his family
and looked in good health. Davis is expected to make a full recovery. He's
heading home to California to recuperate.

During today's game against Montreal; Baltimore fans watched a message from
Davis on the big TV.

Jimmy Key did all he could to register his 12th win of the season, holding
Montreal to one run. But that;s all the Expos needed. Sherman Obando's solo
shot gives Montreal the win.
