Lawyers for advice columnist Ann Landers are attempting to get a lawsuit filed by a convicted killer tossed out of court.

An accident in the Body Camp section of Bedford County last night sent two Staunton River High School students to the hospital.
Police say they were driving east on route 24 when their pickup truck ran head-on into a tree.
Jesse Cheatwood and L.M. Gibson were airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where they are in critical condition.

Police are still looking for a second suspect in the attempted burglary--he escaped into nearby woods.
Yesterday investigators indicated they are close to making an arrest.
The man wounded by Hussey is identified as Randall Lee Gilbert--he is in good condition at Martinsville Memorial Hospital.

State police say a charge of grand larceny is pending against Pulaski County Deputy Terry M. Smith.
He's accused of stealing a 290-dollar swimming pool from the Fairlawn K-Mart, last week.
Smith was off duty at the time of the alleged incident.
Sheriff Ralph Dobbins says Smith has been suspended pending the outcome of the state police investigation.
