Good Evening, you're watching NEWS-7 Primetime on WEFC. I'm Connie Stevens.

A last minute effort by abortion rights advocates to block the parental notification law could be successful.
In federal court today, the controversy centered on how the law was worded, and not the actual law itself.
(----------------)
VO-NAT
SUPER=03-Lynchburg;

Parental Notification states any girl under the age of 18 seeking an abortion must tell her parents OR ask a juvenile court judge for a waiver.
If the judge finds the girl is mature enough to make that decision on her own, the statute says that judge "MAY" grant the girl's request.
An attorney for Planned Parenthood argued the word "may" is open to interpretation... and that the law instead should read "shall".
