A pilot was forced to make a crash landing in Bedford County last night.
The Single Engine Cessna landed in a field off route 1-22 about two miles south of Bedford.

Authorities say he did not appear injured and refused treatment at the scene.

Police say 28- year- old Brian Neal Smith ran off the side of route 2-20 and struck an embankment.
His car overturned and he was ejected from the vehicle.

Meantime in Northeast Roanoke last night fire gutted a vacant house.
The fire broke out shortly before 11 o'clock in this house on the 900 block of Madison Avenue.
Roanoke's assistant fire marshal says arson appears to be the cause of the blaze.
Roanoke Fire fighters say the house was condemned, but it appears someone was living inside.

Virginia stands to gain more than 300 jobs.
C-S-X and Norfolk Southern yesterday formally asked for federal approval of their ten- billion dollar plan to split Conrail.
The two Virginia-based railroads submitted an application with the U-S Surface Transportation Board.
A decision is NOT expected until next year.
The railroads said dividing Conrail will save money and improve shipment of cargo.

Twenty-four women from across the Commonwealth are gathering in Roanoke for rehearsals of the Miss Virginia Scholarship Pageant.
There are also plenty of other activities planned this week, including a public appearance tonight at the Hotel Roanoke and a visit to Hunting Hills Country Club.
The pageant will be held this Saturday at the Roanoke Civic Center.
The winner will represent Virginia in the Miss American pageant.
