More than 200 mourners were at the Roanoke City Police Chief's funeral and burial today.
M-David Hooper, age 67, died of cancer earlier this week.
August first would have been his 30th anniversary as Chief.
Hooper was well known in Virginia and throughout the country.

Lightning made its mark in Floyd County-- setting off a fire that killed five horses there.
The blaze broke out at Stanley Chafin's farm in the Willis section of the County yesterday.
The fire chief says the barn burned to the ground in about 15 minutes.
Four of the horses died in the fire; the fifth was so badly burned he had to be put down.

One of the most pleasant surprises today has been the play of Arnold Palmer.
Arnie knocks in this putt for birdie on number 8.
He's still coming back from his Prostate cancer surgery, but he says he feels as good as he has in the past five years.
Here's more proof for you, look at the magnificent tee shot on this par three 11th hole.
Now this looks a lot like me, but it's actually Jack Nicklaus playing out of the trees back on to the fairway. Jack finished at 73, three over. Roanoke's Billy King was on the leader board most of the day at one under. He missed this birdie putt on the tenth hole, but he finishes the first round at plus 3 and in good shape for tomorrow round.

Mike Wallace, the driver of the Spam Chevrolet has been fired.
Wallace failed to qualify the car for eight of the season's first 15 events, including last weekend's California 500.
This decision isn;t a hasty one. The team tried changing crew chiefs and engine builders before releasing Wallace.
Loy Allen will take over the car at Daytona in two weeks at the Pepsi Firecracker 400.
