So, in effect, the U-S Supreme Court struck down Virginia's only black majority congressional district.
The court refused to hear an appeal from the state and the ACLU.
So a lower court ruling stands.

The third district runs from Richmond to Tidewater.
The decision means Virginia's only black congressman, Bobby Scott, will have to run in a new district -- and Virginia lawmakers will have to start arguing over that.

A six foot alligator was captured today after swimming for more than eight miles north along the beach.
Yesterday lifeguards ordered swimmers ashore after the gator swam close to the shore.

Thunderstorms in the Memphis area today kept Chip Sullivan from playing his second round at the Fed. Ex St. Jude Classic.
