An accident yesterday afternoon in Campbell County took the life of a
Lynchburg man.
State Police say 49-year-old Alfred Spinner lost control of his Dodge Omni
on Route 6-09 near Pettigrew Drive.
Police say Spinner ran off the leftside of the road, the car overturned and
he was thrown from the vehicle.
It happened around four yesterday afternoon.
Spinner died at Lynchburg General Hospital.

A Bedford man is in critical condition today at Roanoke Memorial Hospital
after being shot late last night.
The shooting happened in Boty Camp in Bedford County at about midnight.
28-year old Rodney Craighead was arguing with a man at a party when the
suspect pulled out a gun and shot him.
The suspect--21-year old Dewayne (Dee-Wayne) Timothy of Lynchburg is a
convicted felon.
Police later arrested him and charged him with malicious wounding.

Firefighters in Rockbridge County are battling a forest fire at this hour.
The fire began this afternoon north of Robertson Gap in the Buena Vista
area.
Five fire companies are now fighting the blaze in the George Washington
National Forest.
Officials say no houses are threatened at the moment, but rugged terrain is
hampering efforts to put out the fire.

Salem police arrested two men in connection with a stolen dinosaur.
The fiberglass creature used to sit outside the Berglund Ford in Salem until
thieves stole it June 23rd.
Police found the dinosaur in an abandoned building along the 2700 block of
Back Creek Road in Roanoke County.
Officials arrested 21-year old Eon E. Hunsinger of Elliston and 22-year old
Timothy R. Hicks of Roanoke, Virginia in connection with the case.
They're both charged with grand larceny and face up to 20 years in prison if
convicted.

N-S is saying if the deal is approved, transfers could bring about 200 new
office jobs to Roanoke over a three year period.

People in Lynchburg will watch Wachovia's deal with Central Fidelity

The Belk department store chain, which took over Leggett last year, plans to

Belk says Richmond is a more geographically favorable location for its new

MainStreet Bankgroup of Martinsville has made its first big move out of
state.
It purchased Commerce Bank, a small bank out of College Park Maryland, in a
stock swap valued close to 15- million- dollars.
Pulaski Furniture has opened a new import-export center.
43 new employees in Pulaski will help the company handle its growing
overseas sales.
Checking the financial markets for the week, the Dow Jones Industrial
Average lost 109 points.

In golf this afternoon, Dot Bowling won the Lynwood Ladies Invitational this
afternoon in Martinsville.
Bowling shot 79 today and finished with a 152. Omega Dean was second at
164.
Greg Norman birdied the final three holes to win the Fed Ex St. Jude's
Classic. Norman finished at 16 under par Dudley Hart was second at 15 under
par.
And going to 18 Graham Marsh and John Bland were tied for the lead at the
U-S Senior Open. But Marsh parred the 18-th hole to win the Open.
