A federal appeals judge overrules judge James Turk's temporary block today of
the parental notification law.

The decision tonight means Virginia's parental notification law can go into
effect in two hours.
This afternoon Judge Turk ruled there's "substantial likelihood" that
Virginia's parental notification law is UNconstitutional-- so he had blocked it
from taking effect at midnight.
Planned Parenthood argues the law gives Juvenile and Domestic Relations
Judges a lot of leeway if a pregnant teen comes to them to bypass her parents.

Doctor John Presley spoke out today for the first time since he was forced
on administrative leave from the Salem Veteran's Hospital in March.
He says the Department of Veteran's Affairs has had him on leave for three
months because it's investigating claims that he sexually harassed employees at
the Salem V-A.

Presley denies he ever sexually harassed anyone at the Salem V-A.
He has long been known as one of the V-A's "troubleshooters".
In 1992, Presley arrived in Salem, after the bodies of several patients were
discovered on hospital grounds.
Presley says the man who will become acting Secretary of the Department of
Veteran's Affairs, his wife, the V-A's general counsel, and others, are behind
this plot to oust him.
He even wrote to President Clinton about his situation-- as the seretary is
a White House cabinet member.
The Veteran's Administration says Presley's comments are "puzzling and

Judge Diane Strickland said she will consider the motion to strike the

Remnants of the pipe bomb that were collected 22 years ago have vanished.
The prosecution says they can still interview witnesses who collected and

Henry County police have arrested a man for allegedly murdering a woman.
Investigators say they will NOT charge the man who drove the car to and from
the crime scene, because he's cooperating as a witness.
36-year-old Marshall Junior Martin was arrested Saturday night on charges of
first degree murder.
Police say Martin allegedly shot 37-year-old Stephanie Parler in the head
after she voluntarily left a trailer park with him and another man.
Parler's body was found fully clothed on a dead end Road in Martinsville.
Assault charges were dismissed against a Salem High School Coach.
Walter Braine was accused of kicking a 15- year- old student during gym
Braine's attorney conceded that he "tapped" the student on the leg, but said
he didn't assault him.

It's part of a re-addressing plan proposed by emergency coordinators.
At the first of several public information sessions in the county, residents
were told about problems with the current system.
Some street numbers are out of order, duplicated or on the wrong side of the

The Summer Transition Program is designed to improve the academic and
physical abilities of incoming students.
The first arrivals say they came for the VMI education and experience, not
to make history.
In a bittersweet moment for Great Britain, it handed control of Hong Kong

But first, some huge news tonight concerning Roanoke native Steve Robinson.
Tomorrow the former Fleming and Radford University star will be named the new
head basketball coach at Florida State University.
Robinson spent the past two seasons as Tulsa's head coach and on March of
this year he signed an extension through the year 2004.
Today he resigned and tomorrow at eleven, he takes over the Seminoles.

The Salem Avalanche continued its four game home stand with the Durham Bulls
tonight at Salem Memorial as they tried to stay above the 500 mark and the
Bulls in the Southern division.

Mugsy the mascot was showing off some serious moves tonight on the dugout.
But it was Durham that did the showing off on the diamond first. Adam
Johnson gets all of this pitch sending the ball over the right field wall for

Salem would come back in the bottom half of the first, as Forry Wells rips a
shot to right, Tal Light scores on the play and it's 2-to-1 Durham.
Salem would then tie the game as ben Petrick whacks one to deep left field

His bite is still worse than his bark, but Mike Tyson did come forward today
to apologize for his actions in Saturday night's heavyweight brawl with

Tyson says he already has sought help to bolster his mental health.
Meanwhile, his $33 million dollar paycheck has been upheld, pending

The rain stopped over the weekend at Wimbledon, but this afternoon the rash
of upsets continued as Monica Seles was sent home.

Seles was the number two seed on the women's side but today she was beaten by
unseeded Sandrine Testud of France.
The loss is even more shocking when you consider Seles won the first set
6-love, only to lose the next two 6-4 and 8-6.

A number of other women fared much better including 11th seed Mary Joe
Fernandez, 8th seed Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, 9th seed Mary Pierce and third
