reported an alleged group rape that may have happened two days before the end
of school.
The Halifax County sheriff and Commonwealth's attorney are meeting with
school officials today, to find out why they kept the alleged incident quiet.

She says a teacher finally walked in and stopped the incident.

Two people died early this morning when a Salem man crashed his pick-up
truck while apparently running from the police.

Investigators say 25-year-old Christopher Todd DeWeese ran off the road and
crashed into a tree AFTER a police officer recognized him at Mill Mountain
Park.
DeWeese was thrown from the truck, which burst into flames.
Two passengers were trapped in the truck, their bodies burned beyond
recognition.
They have not been identified, yet.
DeWeese was hospitalized, but police say his injuries are not life
threatening.
At the time of the accident he was wanted for a probation violation, and for
failing to appear in court.
Investigators haven't decided what charges to file against DeWeese.

For the second time, a federal judge has struck down the "don't ask, don't
tell" policy toward gays in the military.
Judge Eugene Nickerson says the policy violates the First Amendment's free
speech protections.
This is the same judge who first declared the policy unconstitutional in
1995.
But a federal appeals court panel disagreed with the New York judge's
reasoning and ordered him to review it.
Under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, gay soldiers can serve as long as
they keep their sexual orientation to themselves and do not engage in
homosexual acts.

Medical Center find ovulation appears to alter the tumor-suppressor gene known
as P-53.
Consequently, the higher the number of ovulatory cycles a woman has in her
lifetime-- the greater her cancer risk.
Since ovulation does not occur during pregnancy, and since birth control
pills suppress ovulation,
researchers suggests that those with the least risk of developing ovarian
cancer are mothers who've had at least three children, and those who've taken
the pill over a long period of time.
The hope is the research will lead to a screening method for improved
earlier detection of the disease.))

between 60 and 97 percent of men who undergo the surgery survive 10 years
afterwards.
The men who did the best were those whose cancer had not spread and who had
lower grade cancer cells.
The study though, did NOT compare different treatments-- so there is still
debate about which method is best.
Prostate cancer affects one out of every 10-thousand men.
