An accident on interstate 95 near Emporia has left eight people dead this morning.
Virginia state police say the accident was caused by a mini-van that swerved across a median.

Six of the dead were in the minivan, including three small children who were flung across the highway.

Ae federal appeals judge in Richmond explain his decisin on the Parental Notifcation abortion law.
Judge Michael Luttig released a 37- page ruling yesterday, BLASTING Judge James Turk for his temporary injunction of the law Monday.
Luttig disagrees with Turk on every major provision of his ruling.
He writes that the status quo should be upheld until the constitutionality of the law is decided...
And that status quo is "that which the People have wrought, not that which unaccountable federal judges impose on them."
Planned Parenthood has appealed Luttig's ruling.

It was apparently infected by a wild animal.

Lawyers for convicted murderer Joseph O'Dell are trying last mintue attempts at saving their client.
They have asked state officials to release evidence from his case for additional D-N-A testing.
O'Dell is scheduled to be executed on July 23rd.
His lawyers contend D-N-A tests conducted in 1990 weren't sophisticated
enough --- and new tests will prove he didn't rape and kill Virginia Beach

secretary Helen Schartner.
A spokesman for Governor Allen says he is reviewing the request.

Eight people are following an accident yesterday on Interstate 95 near Emporia.

Officials say a dodge mini- van swerved across the median and slammed into a car, a recreational vehicle and a tractor trailer.
The accident crushed the mini-van to a height of about two feet, flung the bodies of three children across the roadway and scattered luggage and twisted steel over 120 yards.
Six of the dead were in the mini-van.
