Roanoke's mayor wants the city to get aggressive in its bid to build a higher education center downtown-
In his state of the city address, Mayor David Bowers outlined his plan to raise the first five-million dollars for the project.
It would go in one of the former Norfolk Southern buildings next to the Hotel Roanoke.
Half would come from sources in the city.
Contributions from other local governments along with citizen fundraising campaigns, like the one for the Hotel Roanoke renovation, would make up the rest.

A grand jury handed down a total of 182 indictments, most of them on drug distribution.
Police fingered most suspects after secretly video-taping them distributing drugs to undercover officers.
Police plan to make most of the arrests tonight and tomorrow.

Chrysler is issuing a recall of more than a million and a half cars and trucks.
The company will be correcting seven different safety-related problems, including faulty air-bag controls and minivan lift-gate supports.
The largest recall involves about 850-thousand Dodge Ram pickup trucks from model years 1994 through 1997.
And 1995-to-97 Dodge Ram Vans and Ram Wagons.
That's to fix a fire hazard involving transmission fluid.
Owners of the affected vehicles should contact their dealer-- after they're notified later this summer.

Two men were injured in the annual Running of the Bulls in Pamplona today.
The event originated in 1591-- when daredevils begn running alongside the animals, when they were being driven through the town to a bullfight.
At least 13 people have been killed in the runs, including a 22 year old American, gored to death in 1995.
Tens of thousands of tourists from several continents converge on the city, during the annual San Fermin Festival-- which just started.

But in the finals, Tino Martinez of the Yankees outduelled Walker hitting 3 homers to his 1 to win the overall title.
