Wytheville residents had some "fireworks" of their own this Fourth of July
and now it's clean up and damage control time.
The quick, but massive storm that ripped through the town Friday devastated
many homes and businesses.

The national weather service is calling it a super cell thunderstorm.
Meteorologists say it's larger and lasts longer than normal thunderstorms.
And super cell storms have strong rotating winds and are often associated
with tornadoes.
Elizabeth Kennedy says those winds bent the frame of her trailer and she
believes her home is totaled.

Is it a healthy dose of capitalism or an overpowering monopoly?
That's the question the Justice Department is trying to answer as it
investigates whether a northern Virginia company's almost complete control of
assigning Internet addresses violates anti-trust laws.
Network Solutions of Herndon assigns the Internet's most widely used
addresses that end in such terms as "dot-com" and "dot-org."
Critics say the 100-dollar registration fee is too high and that Network
Solutions has too much control.

A state auditor believes the new deputy director of the Department of
Environmental Quality James McDaniel knew about payments that forced his
predecessor to resign.
The agency paid former spokesman Michael McKenna more than 78-hundred
dollars in overtime after McKenna resigned in mid-January.
But, McKenna didn't have the paperwork to prove the extra hours.
Criticism from the incident forced T. March Bell to resign as deputy
director.
In a report dated June 24th, internal auditor Merritt Cogswell says
McDaniel received warnings that the overtime payment could be improper but did
nothing to stop it.
McDaniel says it was Bell's
job to decide whether to allow the payment, not his.
