The Justice Department is investigating how Internet addresses are assigned. The issue is whether a northern Virginia company's almost complete control of the process violates anti-trust laws. Network Solutions of Herndon assigns the Internet's most widely used addresses that end in such terms as "dot-com" and "dot-org." Critics say the 100-dollar registration fee is too high and that Network Solutions has an unfair monopoly. The probe was revealed in documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
