Employees at Roanoke's Rack-n-Sack were given just one hour's notice that the
store is closing and they're out of a job.
Good Evening, you're watching NEWS-7 Primetime, I'm COnnie Stevens.
Management at the Rack and Sack store next to Valley View Mall held an
emergency, mandatory meeting with employees this afternoon at five.
They told them the store would be closing its doors permanantly in one hour.
Most workers were stunned by the news that they were losing their job.

A 29 year old man who was killed when he lost control of his car on Moorman

Ronald William Smith was apparently speeding down the residential road this

speeding down the street several times over the past few weeks.
Witnesses say the car was traveling nearly 100 miles an hour when it
sideswiped a pole and spun out of control.

The car crashed near a playground where children were playing... the spare
tire landed just a few feet away.
The victim's sister says she owns the car, and her brother was driving it
for the first time.

Tragedy at a U-S Military Base.
The crash of an army helicopter at Fort Bragg, North Carolina left all eight
soldiers aboard dead.
The Army Blackhawk went down in a firery crash, in a wooded area.

The soldiers were all members of the 82-nd Airborne, based at Fort Bragg.
A convicted murderer who tried to cut himself with a disposable razor in a

Virginia has a new justice of the State Supreme Court. She's from far
Cynthia Kinser was administered the oath this morning.

One local group is hoping that new license plates will help cut down pet
overpopulation in the Commonwealth.
The Prevent Animal Litters Coalition is campaigning for tags featuring a cat
The group is hoping for 350 orders by September first.
Money from the tags will eventually go towards helping pet owners spay and

popular weight loss drug combination nicknamed "fen-phen."
Fenfluramine and Phentermine are the center of intense scrutiny at the Mayo
Clinic.. after two dozen women developed serious health complications like

This is not the first time fen-phen has been labelled risky.
About a year ago, doctors discovered a possible connection between
pulmonary hypertension and the two F-D-A approved drugs when used in
combination with one another.
