An hour earlier, employees at the store were called to an emergency
mandatory staff meeting.
They were all terminated and told the store would be shutting down.
One employee said management blamed the closing on poor sales.
But, the news was a surprise to almost everyone.

An effort to dump Lynchburg's trash tag system narrowly failed during
tonight's city council meeting.
Councilman Robert Garber argued the city could easily afford to offer its
residents free trash pickup.
But Garber's motion to repeal the trash tags failed by a 4 to 3 vote.

Montgomery County Circuit Court came to a halt this morning when a convicted
murderer tried to stab himself with a sharpened pencil before he was sentenced
to life in prison.

A speeding car crashed in a northwest Roanoke neighborhood this morning,
killing the driver.
Police say the car was traveling at least 76 miles an hour on the
But witnesses say it was closer to 100.
The car sideswiped a utility pole, spun out of control and hit a second pole
with such force it pulled it out of the ground.
The driver, 29-year old Ronald William Smith died at the scene. Police say
he was driving on a suspended license.

Now, these animal officers are working to help PAL reach its statewide goal.

After one thousand plates are sold- 15 dollars from future Animal Friendly
tag sales will go to local animal shelters.
They'll in turn use the money to help owners spay and neuter dogs and cats.

week. They're learning from the buildings and designs of Thomas Jefferson.
They students are of Britain's Prince of Wales Summer School in
