A speeding car crashed in a northwest Roanoke neighborhood this morning, killing the driver.

Police say the car was traveling at least 76 miles an hour on the residential street.
But witnesses say it was closer to 100.
The car sideswiped a utility pole, spun out of control and hit a second pole with such force it pulled it out of the ground.
The driver, 29-year old Ronald William Smith died at the scene. Police say he was driving on a suspended license.

After one thousand plates are sold- 15 dollars from future Animal Friendly tag sales will go to local animal shelters.
They'll in turn use the money to help owners spay and neuter dogs and cats.

The Stars are 3 and OH in the national tournament in Kingsport, Tennessee. The team advances to the winners bracket tomorrow. The Stars are one of 44 teams remaining out of the 89 squads that started the event.
