The driver, 29 year old Ronald William Smith of Northwest Roanoke, was
driving on a suspended license, and was not wearing a seatbelt.
Neighbors say they've seen the car speeding down the road several times over
the past few weeks...
One woman said she yelled at him to slow down.
AMAZINGLY IN A NEIGHBORHOOD FILLED WITH CHILDREN, NO ONE WAS IN THE STREET WHEN
THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED.
But it was still a close call, a nearby park was filled with children who
saw the wreck happen... The car's spare tire flew out of the trunk and landed
just a few feet away from them.

Ernie Irvan will leave Yates racing at the end of this season, the Express
re-signs a key member off last year's team.

No matter how hard Ernie irvan denied that he and Robert Yates racing were on
the verge of a split the rumors to contrary grew stronger.
This afternoon the rumors became reality as team owner Robert Yates announced
that Irvan will not be back as the driver of Havoline Thunderbird next season.
Irvan has struggled a good part of this year and is just 16th in the points
Reports of his dismissal from the team surfaced this past April after Irvan
and his wife Kim got into scuffle with another woman outside a Charlotte night
Ernie, who is now 38, says he will announce his plans for 1998 in the next
