residential Roanoke neighborhood.

Catholic neighborhoods of west Belfast were virtually barricaded with
burning cars and buses.
When security forces tried to move in they were met by barrages of bottles
of flaming gasoline...and in some areas...automatic weapons fire.
Many of the rioters are youngsters in their teens and early
twenties.
Two fourteen year olds...one Protestant...the other Catholic...are
critically ill after having been hit by a gunfire and a plastic bullet. The
police have fired more than 1,600 of the so-called "non-lethal plastic baton
rounds" so far.

The violence claimed its first casualty when a Protestant man apparently
accidentally blew himself up with an explosive device.
catholic political leaders have appealed for restraint...but at the same
time are encouraging their followers to protest. A newspaper report here
claims the catholic Sinn Fein party is laying plans to occupy public building
and block highways.
It was also disclosed today that the British government had a report
recommending that the Protestant march last Sunday go through weeks before the
final decision was allegedly made. And the most contentious of northern
Ireland's nearly 3,000 annual Protestant marches are still to come.
Last night's violence wasn't as bad as the night before...but there's little

Russian space station have begun unloading more than two tons of supplies.
The cargo ship is carrying equipment needed to fix the station's power system
damaged last month after a collision with another cargo ship.
