Crenshaws Electronics and Appliances was only in Virginia for about a year,
The North Carolina chain that purchased Holdren's assets a year ago closed
its fifth and final store, its Roanoke flagship showroom.
Crenshaws created some bad feelings among former Holdren's customers.
Last year it said it wasn't obligated to cover thousands of Holdren's

One of the biggest supermarket battlegrounds is in Southwest Roanoke and
Where a new, deluxe Harris Teeter is giving Kroger a run for its money.
Kroger has even resorted to TRIPLE coupons to keep its customers.
Nearly 600 members of a union representing Salem's General Electric workers
gave the nod to a new three year contract...also ratified nationwide.
The union says the contract includes a retirement option for people with 30
years experience who are given lack of work notices, and a 13- percent pay
raise over three years.
G-E is one of the area's largest employers, with about 1000 salaried people
and 900 hourly workers.
The facility makes the control systems for large, industrial machines.
City Pawn Shop in Southeast Roanoke has gone out of business.
This comes as a result of an out-of-court settlement the McGuire brothers
reached with the State Attorney General's Office.
Checks went out last week to nearly 200 people who filed claims on the
money Tim and Tony McGuire had to place in escrow.

A key lawmaker says the T-V industry has reached an agreement in
principle to strengthen its ratings by adding onscreen symbols to flag
violence, sex and potentially offensive language.
Beginning this fall, the new system would flash a letter -- such as "V" for
violence -- during the first 15 seconds of the program.
Other ratings would include "S" for sex, "L" for language and "D" for
sexually suggestive dialogue.
An old Department of Corrections work camp in Floyd County is being
transformed into a a military- style boot camp.
The facility will house male juveniles-- who've committed non-violent acts.
The state is opening three similar centers throughout Virginia.
In Willis, the boot- camp will be the first-- opening in the fall.
It is expected to serve as a model for other facilities around the world.
Floyd County Administrator Roy Crawford is excited about the attention as
well as the 37- jobs its creating.

The Lottery earned a record 343- million dollars for Virginia's general fund
