A Bedford man is facing a number of charges following a fatal hit and run
accident last night.
Forty-one- year- old Howard Johnson was struck and killed as he rode his
bike on Route 4-60.
Authorities searched for more than an hour for a green Ford spotted by
A short while later they arrested John Scott.
He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, hit and run and driving
with a suspended license.
At least 74 people were killed this morning when a fire swept through a 30
story beach resort south of Bangkok.
The blaze started on the ground floor of the hotel and within one hour it
had swept up the stairwells to the top of the building.
Many of the victims found themselves trapped behind locked fire exits.
Rescuers used ropes to pull hotel guests to safety.
Workers at Salem's General Electric plant returned to work today after some
confusion yesterday about their jobs.

Some new questions are being raised
about the rifle believed to have killed Martin Luther King.
A judge in Memphis says an expert has found that the bullet that killed the
civil rights leader doesn't match some bullets fired from the alleged murder
weapon in May.
The expert was hired by lawyers for James Earl Ray, who are hoping to get
him a new trial. He's been in prison for the 1968 slaying after confessing to
it, but he later recanted.
They're asking for a new round of tests -- and they want the
test bullets fired by the F-B-I soon after King's death to be
turned over for examination.
Those requests are the subject of a hearing today in Memphis, Tennessee.
Bosnian Serbs have boosted
security around their senior officials. They're trying to stop
NATO- peacekeeping forces from seizing any more war crime suspects.
Yesterday one indicted soldier was killed and another captured in a shootout
with British troops.
Some soldiers from Danville had warned their families the situation there

recognized Bradley as the man looking into her bedroom.
Sheriff Robert Maxey suspended Bradley with pay while an internal
investigation is conducted.
Bradley has worked as a corrections officer at the Campbell County jail for
the last four years.

A formal agreement was signed today between the HongJong(HONG-JUNE) HiTech

President Clinton is the first U-S President to visit Romania in more than

20-hour visit in Poland.
Mr. Clinton is expected to outline his proposal for a "strategic

woman is facing charges of animal cruelty.
The woman apparently pierced the fawn's ears.
Bettie Phillips says she thought the animal would look pretty that way.
Police found the deer in the back of her vehicle after receiving an anonymous
