Four young people suspected in a Georgia murder case spent time with a
Henry County family.

Two of the young suspects, a 17 year old girl and 15 year old boy, were
formally charged today in Atlanta.
The father of one of the teenagers accused in the murder says he was
surprised when his son showed up at his Henry County home.
Buddy Ratcliff admits he has not played much of a role in his son's
life--19 year old Wayne Curtis Shaw is one of four young people arrested over
the weekend, accused in a robbery and murder near Atlanta.
Ratcliff says police went overboard when they came to his home searching
for the suspects.

Another of Ratcliff's sons, Michael Stokes, was arrested recently and
charged with breaking into a house and shooting at the homeowner.
This morning's murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace in front of his
Miami Beach home has taken another twist.
The F-B-I says its only suspect is suspected serial killer-- 27-year-old
Andrew Philip (Cu-NAN-in) Cunanan.

Police found a truck nearby that 27-year-old Cunanan allegedly stole from
his last suspected victim.
Cunanan is wanted for four murders in three states-- he's on the FBI's list
of top ten fugitives.

One of the world's premier fashion designers, he was murdered assassination
style right in front of his art deco villa in Miami
He'd just walked home after picking up a newspaper at this nearby cafe,
and probably never saw the killer coming.
At age 50, Versace had reached the top of the fashion world.
His runway shows were glittering events-- featuring the world's top

There have been no arrests yet in a murder early this morning in Lynchburg.
31-year old Steven Waddell Withers was found shot to death near the
intersection of 15th and Monroe Streets around 1:45 a-m.
Witnesses reported hearing two bursts of gunfire.

Authorities don't know why Withers was killed.
They say they've located the car he was seen driving shortly before the

Pilot error was determined to be the cause of a fatal plane crash in Giles
County last December.
But National Transportation Safety Board officials say the Airborne
Express training program had its share of problems.

N-S has been given the go ahead to build a communications tower on
picturesque Purgatory Mountain.
In a 3 to 2 vote, the county board approved the request which goes against
the planning commission's recommendation to deny the construction.
The railroad's additional tower will make three-- including GTE's and U-S
Norfolk Southern officials admit they were not expecting the board to vote
in their favor.

Rail line officials say the new communications system will be in the

Officials say the personal property tax is the second largest source of

Firefighters don't know what started a fire that nearly destroyed a
townhouse in Forest this afternoon.
Crews from four fire departments were called to the Valleywood Townhouses
The first to arrive found one of the townhomes engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly started working to keep the blaze from spreading.
The intense heat also damaged a car parked outside the building.
No one was home when the fire broke out.
The adjoining townhomes also suffered smoke and water damage.
Trucks were involved in two accidents on area highways today.
A tanker collided with a car on Route 460 near Thaxton around lunchtime.
The car overturned. At least one person was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial
Hospital. No word on that person's condition.
In Glasgow, two trucks collided on the Maury River bridge.
A well-drilling truck carrying a tank of diesel fuel burst into flames, but
the two men in that truck got out safely.
So did the driver of the other vehicle.

New research suggests a link between cerebral palsy and infections in
Infants whose mothers had certain infections during childbirth were nine
times more likely to develop cerebral palsy than those born to healthy mothers.
The infections usually involved the uterus or urinary tract but also
included a bacterial infection known as sepsis.
Cerebral palsy is a brain abnormality typically involving some degree of

Researchers now say it's more common than previously thought.
The infection often invades the blood and lungs and is fatal in half of all

The search for a new baseball coach at William Byrd has come to a close.
Gene Riggs, who came to Byrd five years ago from Bassett and has been an
assistant since that time, was given the job today.

Riggs replaces this gentleman, Rodney Spradlin, who led the Terriers to the
Group 2A state championship this past season. It was the first state baseball
title for Byrd in school history.

played today over at Countryside golf club.
The players teed off this morning at 8:30 in a shotgun format.

But the competition is as hot as the weather. Former champ Dot Bolling is
just one shot back with a 76.
Blue Hills member Janet Cochran shot a 77 today to grab third place. She'll
be on her home course tomorrow.
And Valeeta Pittman is right in the hunt as well, after carding a 79 today.
Tomorrow the event shifts to Blue Hills before finishing up at Hunting Hills

As far as the team competition is concerned Blue Hills and Hidden Valley are
