The latest murder happened just 15 miles from the Versace mansion- in the
community of Miami Springs.

((In an upscale suburb Miami, not ten miles for the Versace murder scene,
police found a forty nine year old doctor dead in the bedroom of his tile
roofed home. A burglar alarm had gone off in the house around six am and when
no one answered the door, police went inside.
Neighbors say they heard two shots and saw a man run form the house, a well
dressed man fitting the general description of Andrew Cunanan, the alleged
serial killer wanted in connection with Versace's murder.

FBI agents and police swarmed the neighborhood around the home, confiscating
a pager and looking for shell casings. Authorities are working on evidence
that suggests that the same handgun may have been used in some of the five
previous murders linked to Cunanan, including the murder of Gianni Versace who
was shot twice in the back of the head.

It was one year ago today that TWA flight 800 exploded- crashing into the

Family and friends are remembering loved ones-
They gathered for a memorial mass at St. Patricks Cathedral in New York.
The Reverend John Ferry told the families not only to remember the tragedy
of their deaths, but what they gave to life.
Another memorial is planned later today on Long Island- near the site
where the plane went down.
America's best known five and dime is closing.
Woolworth says it has no choice because it's in deep financial debt.
The chain has about 36-hundred full time and 56-hundred parttime workers.
The company has two stores in our area, one in Roanoke, and another in
Nationally, Woolworth will convert about a quarter of its locations into its
Foot Locker and Champs specialty shops.
But there's no word on what will happen with its stores here.
In other retail news, it looks like the Roanoke Valley could get another
The hardware giant has discussed with Roanoke County the possibility of
locating a second "big box" location across from the Walmart on route 220 just
past Tanglewood Mall.
Lowe's already has a store at the Crossroads Mall in Roanoke.

So, Republican Al Bedrosian chose to announce his legislative reform ideas

Bedrosian supports term limits, limits on the number of bills introduced

The businessman says he's running for political office in an effort to

One of the most famous horses of the Civil War will get a new resting place
in Lexington this weekend.
The cremated skeleton of Stonewall Jackson's Little Sorrel will be buried at
the base of his master's statue, on the VMI parade ground.
Jackson rode Little Sorrel in his famous Shenandoah Valley Campaign in 1862.
And he was riding the horse a year later when he was mortally wounded by his
own men at the battle of Chancellorsville.
Little Sorrel's mounted hide will remain on display at the VMI Museum.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease that causes pain,
stiffness, and swelling in the joints.
Now, for its two-and-a-half million sufferers, there's new hope in an
experimental drug called TNF Fusion Protein.
In a three-month test on 180 adults, the therapy relieved pain and swelling
in 75-percent of people who took the highest dose.

Tumor Necrosis Factor or TNF, which triggers swelling and inflammation in the

pain-- remarkably so, according to some test patients.
Still, some experts are urging caution, until a larger group is tested--
for a longer time, while assessing potential side effects.
For epilepsy patients, it's the first alternative to drugs or surgery in
The government has approved an implant that sends pulses into
It's not a cure.
But for thousands of people with epilepsy who suffer frequent seizures, it
could significantly reduce attacks.
Highway deaths are up-- and safety officials are blaming aggressive
About two-thirds of the deaths from highway car crashes in recent years can
be attributed to so-called road rage.

Sleepy drivers may be more dangerous than drunk drivers.
In the journal "Nature" sleep-deprived volunteers showed that staying up
for more than a day could hurt performance just as much as a few

Balding men could soon have a stronger aide in countering hair loss.
Advisers to the Food and Drug Administration have voted to
recommend a five-percent strength version of Rogaine for sale over-the-counter
Currently, a two-percent solution is available without a prescription--
marketed to men and women.
The new version would be intended only for men-- and it's makers say
Rogaine Extra Strength can increase hair growth by up to 46-percent over the
original product-- but it may cause scalp irritation.

Tiger Woods' arrival created quite a stir in Troon Scotland; but the men
to watch in the first round were Jim Furyk and Darren Clarke.
Furyk is tied for the lead with Clarke. Both fired 4 under 67's. Here on
14; a par 3. Furyk finds the green on the nice tee shot.
He was at 4 under going in to the hole and his long putt finds the cup for
the birdie and he was at 5 under.
Clarke; a pro out of Ireland; played a magnificent first round. Here on 11;
with a putter from off the green; he nails it and Clarke was at 4 under through
Tiger Woods fired a one over 72 and triple bogeyed 11.

Dot Bolling added another win to her list this summer by winning the
Roanoke City County championship this afternoon at Hunting Hills.

A tomato patch in Montgomery County is getting attention worthy of a purple
On Tuesday-- state police searching for marijuana from a helicopter zeroed
in on Raymond (Mill-irons) Millirons' plants.
But authorities on the ground quickly found out-- what the man in the sky
thought was marijuana--was nothing more than 14 tomato plants.
You might think "end" of the story-- but the Richmond Times Dispatch picked
up on what happened.
It's the second time in three years authorities "raided" their property.
