Sheriff's officials say the wound required a couple of stitches.
He apparently cut himself with part of the wrist band on his watch Monday morning.
During his jury trial he tried to cut his neck with part of a disposable razor.
And, just last week, he tried to stab himself with a pencil.
Knowles was taken to a state mental hospital.

He faces charges of distributing cocaine after a team of investigators stopped him on a Richmond road Tuesday night.

Agents confiscated two tractor trailer loads during a raid June first.
