The pastor of a Roanoke church is arrested in Detroit, accused of fondling a

Good evening I'm Connie Stevens--this is News 7 Prime Time on WEFC.
The 65 year old pastor of Saint Elias Catholic Church in Roanoke was charged
after the incident yesterday.
Father Assad Awad is accused of fondling a 20 year old maid who was cleaning
his room at the Westin Hotel in Detroit.
He allegedly grabbed the woman as she bent over to vaccuum.
Awad was in that city for a convention.
He has been head of Saint Elias for 25 years.
For the second time this year Danny Hall stands accused of firing shots into
a Henry County home.
This time he's also accused of murder.
Henry County Police say Hall sprayed dozens of rounds last night killing
23-year old David Lawson.
Hall's estranged wife Sandra was also shot in the upper right leg.
She is in good condition today at Baptist Hospital.
A third victim managed to escape without injury...

Charges that Hall shot at his wife back in April were dropped at a hearing
earlier this year.
Hall is currently being held in the Henry County jail on four felony charges
including first-degree murder, malicious wounding and use of a firearm.
The sister of a convicted killer is headed to prison -- thanks in part to
A Pittsylvania County jury today found Mary Dalton guilty of second degree
murder, and sentenced her to 15 years in prison.

The 19-year-old woman was convicted in the murder of an elderly man two

And tonight, confirmation that hurricane-tossed seas have apparently
claimed the life of a boater in the Gulf of Mexico.
Danny's high winds have already caused a major oil spill from a rig-- and
crews are hoping the storms stay away long enough, for them to clean up a
one-thousand gallon spill.
Danny actually isn't expected to make landfall until about midnight-- and
the last we heard, it's not expected to gain a lot of strength when it does.

A Miami Beach hotel manager believes Andrew Cunanan stayed there until just

Authorities say they believe Cunanan is still in south Florida.
Meantime today, one thousand mourners turned out to pay tribute to Gianni
Versace-- gathering near the oceanfront mansion where the fashion designer was
It's been in effect for less than a month, but a judge has already issued a
waiver to Virginia's parental notification law.
The Richmond Times Dispatch says a 17 year old girl told a judge in
Charlottesville she did not want to tell her parents she wanted an abortion
"because they would kill her if they found out."
The judge ruled yesterday the girl would not have to notify her parents.
Officials said the teenager has not yet had the procedure.
Locally David Nova of Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge says his group
has discussed the judicial waiver provision of the law with several clients.
But Nova says so far, none of his clients has applied for it.
Jim Gilmore's plan to cut the personal property tax was the talk of the State
Senate finance committee members expressed concern that if the Republican
candidate for governor gets his idea into law, there could be a revenue
shortfall down the line.

In addition to the economic knowledge gained, the group has gotten to
sample American culture, including a meal at Cattle Annie's and a Lynchburg
Some youngsters in Blacksburg are hoping a fundraiser will help generate
money for their racing strip.
Town officials donated the land for skateboarders shortly after banning the
