Woolworth's just couldn't keep up with the bigger, more modern retail chains like WalMart.
Nationwide it has 36-hundred full time and 56-hundred part time workers.
It staffs an average of about 25 people in each store.
In other retail news, it looks like Lowe's may add another superstore in the Roanoke Valley.
Roanoke County says it has had discussions with the hardware giant about the construction of another location along route 2-20 near Walmart.
A developer has been getting options on a number of homes where the Lowe's store would sit.

Death row inmate Roy Bruce Smith was executed last night for the 19-88 murder of a Manassas police officer.
The 50- year- old Smith made a final statement about getting the last meal he requested and then said (quote): "One man may die so the rest may live."
Smith had no visitors at his own request in his final hours.
He had declined to ask Governor Allen for clemency, and the Supreme Court denied a stay.
Smith's death marked the state's 40th execution since the U-S Sumpreme reinstated the death penalty twenty-years ago.
