Woolworth's just couldn't keep up with the bigger, more modern retail chains
like WalMart.
Nationwide it has 36-hundred full time and 56-hundred part time workers.
It staffs an average of about 25 people in each store.
In other retail news, it looks like Lowe's may add another superstore in the
Roanoke Valley.
Roanoke County says it has had discussions with the hardware giant about the
construction of another location along route 2-20 near Walmart.
A developer has been getting options on a number of homes where the Lowe's
store would sit.

The 19- year- old woman is facing charges of murdering and robbing an elderly
man.

He was devoted to her.

shot and killed Adkins.
Mary Dalton wept yesterday as her brother testified against her.
Michael Dalton was convicted a year ago of murdering and robbing Adkins but
says he confessed to protect his sister.
Defense Attorney Bryan Haskins says Mary Dalton would have no reason to want
Adkins dead.

Death row inmate Roy Bruce Smith was executed last night for the 19-88
murder of a Manassas police officer.
The 50- year- old Smith made a final statement about getting the last meal
he requested and then said (quote): "One man may die so the rest may live."
Smith had no visitors at his own request in his final hours.
He had declined to ask Governor Allen for clemency, and the Supreme Court
denied a stay.
Smith's death marked the state's 40th execution since the U-S Sumpreme
reinstated the death penalty twenty-years ago.
