Heavy smoke is filling the skies over Lynchburg as firefighters are struggling at this hour to contain a blaze that is gutting a downtown building.

The first call went out around 9:15 after smoke was spotted coming from this building at 860 Church Street.
The three- story structure is home to Dawson- Ford- Garbee Real Estate, Preston- Hopkins Printing company, and the Marshall Lodge.
Six engine companies and two ladder trucks have been called in to fight the blaze.
The fire has broken through the roof, and just a short while ago, fire commanders ordered all of the crews out of the building to attack the blaze from the outside.
Heavy damage can be seen on the first floor offices of the real estate company.
Smoke from the fire is activating other alarms in nearby buildings.
It is not known whether anyone was inside when the fire broke out.

Six homes were destroyed- 50 others are damaged.
The woman's body was found in one of the burned out homes.
Construction workers using a backhoe apparently ruptured a gas main- It's unclear what caused the gas to ignite.

The Roanoke Valley golf Association's 36 hole junior event winds up at Countryside today.
But today at Blue Hills Travis Horak from North Cross had the low round of the first round with a four under par 67.
He leads the under 18 division, while Lee taylor is on top in the under 16 group. Lee had a 68 today.
Michael Kidd leads the nine and under midget division, while Matthew Gregory is on top in the under 6 pee-wee division.

America's oldest commissioned warship took it's first trip in over a century.

The trip commemorates the ship's 200th anniversary.
With a large American flag flying behind it, Old Ironsides took a 60 minute tour of the Massachusetts Bay.
