It happened in Plymouth about 100 miles east of Raleigh.
The van apparently tried to pass another car in a no passing zone- went out of control and was skidding- when it was hit by a truck coming the other way.
The students were on a lunch break from summer band camp.
The driver of the tractor trailer escaped without serious injury.

Union officials say the six year deal also includes pension increases, a better insurance package, cost of living increases, and one quarter of the company's laid-off workers will be come back to work as soon as the deal is ratified.
But all the improvements came at a cost.

A bookkeeper who embezzled 42-thousand dollars from the Harrison Museum is in trouble again.
Norma Marie Underwood is named in a federal indictment that links her to an international drug- trafficking operation.

Charlotte Brantley drove onto the tracks. Her car bottomed out and would not budge.
That's when a police officer pulled up and helped the three out.
A moment later- a train smashed the cadillac dragging it 76 feet.

This was the 72nd year the ponies have made the swim.
