Movie Review
Mill Mountain Theater's trip to the fifties, "Damn Yankees" is a real crowd pleaser. With enthusiastic and energetic song and dance numbers.
Joe Boyd, played by Larry French, is a Washington Senators fanatic and he declares he'd do anything if the Senators had a long ball hitter. In this modern twist on "Faust" the Devil, in the guise of Mr. Applegate, takes him up on his vow.
Priscilla Quimby is a sympathetic Meg, left behind when Joe goes off to become young Joe Hardy, the pride of the Senators.
There are some Great locker room scenes with the team and Dawn Westbrook as a spunky reporter. Good work by Michael Hunsaker as a young Joe and the advent of sexy Lola, (Coleen Suddeth),sent by Mr. Applegate to seduce Joe away from dreams of his past round out the show.
Director/Choreographer Craig North keeps everything in the fifties mode which works well. "Damn Yankees" continues through August 24 at Mill Mountain Theater's Mainstage.

Forget that wimp Batman, if your looking for a truly dark super hero what better than one recruited by the devil?
Michael Jai Williams is Al Simmons who is killed in an explosion in a biochemical factory by his double crossing boss Martin Sheen. In a deal with the devil, a popular theme this summer, Simmons returns to earth from Hell as Spawn, a tortured creature with special powers.
John Leguizamo in unrecognizable makeup is the devils agent, a funny but very nasty clown.
On the other side is the shadowy figure Cogliostro, Nichol Williamson, an ambiguous Obi Won Kanobe kind of figure who seems to represent good, maybe.
The real heroes of this film are the special effects wizards who make this fantasy world appear very real. Spawns cape is magnificent.
"Spawn" gets a B. It isn't high art, but the movie delivers what it promises. cutopen
