The workers say they're in no hurry to settle- even though strike benefits
are only 55 dollars a week.
In several places around the nation including here in Roanoke- UPS is
taking the Teamsters to court-

In Roanoke, Judge Richard Pattisall refused the U-P-S request to limit the
picketers to four.
He did however order Teamsters local 171 to stop interfering with the
business U-P-S is still trying to conduct.
The shipper claims union members were slowing down vehicles at its gates,
plus making racial slurs and threats to drivers.

A fire at a Virginia Tech fraternity house was apparently arson.
Blacksburg firefighters found the Kappa Sigma house on Main Street in flames
early Tuesday morning.
The fire did about 100-thousand dollars damage- no one was hurt.
Police said today that the fire was deliberately set, and may be connected
to two other fires earlier in the week.
Early Saturday morning, an unoccupied vehicle was found burning on Penn
Street. A few minutes later, a large chair was reported on fire in the basement
of an apartment house.
The 12-year old grandson who set the fire that killed Betty Shabazz has
been sentenced to 18 months at a
Technically he could spend more time though- The sentence for Malcolm
Shabazz can be renewed until he turns 18.
The sentencing follows Malcolm's guilty plea in the burning death of his
grandmother. She was the widow of black activist Malcolm-X.

Tonight searchers found another victim- in a car caught in the wreckage.
Three people on the plane also died- a fourth is missing and another person
on the ground is unaccounted for.

A West Virginia couple is finally back home after their vacation in the
Caribbean ended with them in a West Indies jail.
Jim and Penny Fletcher were both charged with murdering a taxi driver.
They have spent nearly ten months in court fighting the charge.
If convicted, the Fletchers could have been sentenced to death by hanging.
But their case was dismissed today due to insufficent evidence.
The couple said corrupt government officials tried to frame them for the
murder so they could extort a bribe.
Several Downtown Roanoke employees have been the victims of a new credit
And police are warning others in the area to be cautious.
The downtown employees had their credit cards stolen..and were then tricked
into giving out their pin numbers.

flames but the old wood frame structure was like kindling.

Winston Cup time trials today at the Watkins Glen road course produced the
14th different pole winner of the year.

hair relaxer was left on too long.
Today a jury ordered JC penny to pay her one and three quarter million
Marian Miller claims she was so depressed she needed counseling, quit her
job and left the state to make a fresh start.
Her attorney says she still must wear a wig.
