Union members walking the picket line in Roanoke are voicing their support
of Teamsters' President Ron Carey.
As the first week of the strike draws to a close southwest Virginia union
members say they're gearing up for a lengthy walkout.
They feel the company is not interested in settling the contract dispute.

In a phone interview U-P-S Southwest Operations Manager, Warren King, told
News 7 that the company "feels it's very unfortunate that the Teamsters
leadership has once again walked away from negotiations.
They have repeatedly refused our requests for a contract extention. It is
our desire for the union leadership to let the employees vote on what we
consider to be a very good offer."

including restrictions on the number of parcels you can send, and cut-off times
for drop boxes and service centers.
The U.S. Postal Service also has a list of restrictions on its web site,
including a toll free phone number to make a drop-off appointment if you have
more than four packages to send.

An Amtrak train bound for Chicago derailed in the Arizona desert this

Passengers say a troop of boy scouts on the train are heros... helping
people out of the wrecked cars, and giving basic first aid to the injured.
Several of the passengers are spending the night at a Red Cross shelter.
Cleanup continued at the site of yesterday's cargo plane crash in Miami.
Investigators are still trying to find out what caused the Fine Air cargo
plane to crash, killing four people on the plane and one person on the ground.
Potential causes include mechanical failure, pilot error, and the
possibility that the plane's cargo shifted.
Officials are also checking into Fine Air's past.
A number of the airline's current and past pilots have reportedly asked to
be interviewed as part of the investigation.
State police are filing charges against both drivers involved in a two car
collision on 5-81 in Roanoke earlier this afternoon.
Investigators say German Vasquez Diaz tried to change lanes and struck the
station wagon driven by Robert Claytor Junior.
Claytor lost control of the vehicle striking the highway dividing wall.
Rescue workers transported two people to the hospital.
Their injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
Diaz is charged with driving without a license and reckless driving.

One person was sent to the hospital following scary moments in a hot air
balloon in Sweden.
The accident happened when two of the balloons collided in mid-air, sending
one plunging into the treetops.
A cord strangled one of four people on board. Rescue workers later took
that person to the hospital with minor injuries.
Hot-air balloons typically fill the skies of Stockholm during the summer,
often passing within a few hundred yards of rooftops.
The damaged balloon came to rest in a group of trees by the water's edge.

Residents of the British Colony Montserrat are facing a new threat tonight
after a volcano erupted on Friday.

A Roanoke fast food restaurant is setting a trend.
About a year ago management at the Burger King on Melrose Avenue started
taking an active role in the community.
And now Burger King franchises in other states may follow suit.
Laverne Petty, started organizing events like today's "Kids Day."
There are no parks in the area, so several times a year she organizes
special days to give the neighborhood children something to do.
This event offered a new twist on the traditional dunking booth--this one
The children also tried to defy gravity in the moon house.
Petty says area organizations have been very giving.
She says the events are attracting more people and that's drawn the
attention of Burger King restaurants in other states.
