According to Roanoke City Police
three rafters saw a youngtser in the water having trouble and tried to reach
him but lost sight of him.
The incident happened near the Low Water Bridge portion of the river.
The rafters called the police and a deputy with the sheriff's office later
found the boy's body under several feet of water at about eight-thirty this
evening.

American operations.
This morning the company and the United Auto Workers tentatively agreed on
a new contract for 52 hundred workers in two Detroit-area plants.
One of the plants supplies transmissions to almost all of the country's
North American plants.
Workers will vote on the proposed contract within ten days.

answering their critics.

the mishap.
Many, including Russian president Boris Yeltsin blamed the collision with a
supply ship that damaged the station on "human error."

parts that were either unavailable or too expensive.
One cosmonaut said Russia has a long tradition of looking for scapegoats.
