flush toilets on trains.

It appears the 15 day strike against United Parcel Service is ending.
Sources say negotiators for UPS and the Teamsters reached a tentative
contract agreement tonight.
The deal could mean the end of a strike by 185 thousand workers- that
disrupted package deliveries nationwide.
Liz Mullen is covering the latest developments- She joins us from

Josiah Bunting is confident that the new class of cadets has all those

enrolled for the first time.

The new arrivals might have been forgiven some anxiety on their first day.
The Superintendent had reacted with what he termed "savage disappointment"
the day the U-S Supreme Court said V-M-I could not remain all male and still
receive state funds.
A little more than one year later, here were 30 women talking their places
among 465 cadets seeking an education at this VERY military institution.

He admits it's tough to remember to say young men and WOMEN every time.

The 30 women who signed their names to the list of cadets... follow in the
footsteps of Patten, Marshall and Bunting. One of them is even named Bunting;
the Superintendent's son, Charlie is a member of the class of 2001.
When we spoke with Jennifer Jolin at home in Highland County last week, she
sounded like she already fit in at VMI.

Community reaction to the first co-ed class is mixed.
Some area residents still fear the admission of women will not only break
with tradition but weaken the rigorous training cadets endure.

Others, like Lori Olan, a sexual assault counselor in Lexington, say the
impact on the university will be minimal.
She points out the institution has already taken steps to make the
transition a smooth one.

In either case, most residents appear ready for the change.
Many note that neighboring Washington and Lee University experienced the
same transition 12 years ago.
One of our area's largest employers has become the target of a class action

A potentially dangerous situation on the space station Mir is improving.
Earlier today the stations main computer failed, causing the station to
rotate "chaotically" in orbit.
Mir's solar panels, which provide power to the station, lost their
orientation to the sun.
NASA says cosmonauts used thrusters on a docked Russian space capsule to
regain control of the station.
The stations main oxygen generator was shut down to conserve power, but
officials say the station has enough oxygen to last several days.
Flight controllers don't know what caused the computer failure.

A Danville man is on his way to what has been called the toughest jail in
20-year-old Cory Lamont Stansfield faces murder and armed robbery charges
in North Carolina.
Stansfield allegedly shot 54-year-old Steven Collins Eaton four times after
trying to sell him fake drugs.
Danville police trapped Stansfield on Oxford Street Friday.
North Carolina sheriff Gerald Hagey says Stansfield will not have an easy
time in jail.

A former heavyweight boxing champ has been arrested on assault charges.
32-year old Oliver McCall is in the Henry County jail without bond after
his wife accused him of assaulting her early this morning.
