On August 24th he was scheduled to appear here in roanoke, and like thousands of others Linda Lee already had her tickets.
But in stead of a trip to the Civic center she ended up making a pilgrimage with hundreds of thousands of others to Graceland for the King's Funeral.

The state has executed Carlton Jerome Pope for killing and robbing a Portsmouth woman, Cynthia Gray, in 19-86.
Pope was put to death by injection last night at the Greensville Correctional Center.

One local church got a new look yesterday.

The steeple of a century old church in Callaway was replaced yesterday as the community watched.
For four years Highland United Methodist Church has been looking into replacing the weathered steeple.
Mary Sledd says she's been going to the church for 63 years, and sits in the same pew every Sunday.
She says the transfiguration is good, as long as the past is not forgotten.
